LARGE DIAPHRAGM CONDENSER

Picture
Jump starting the week with a quick gear review!! Recently just added a new large diaphragm condenser microphone to our collection. It's a beautiful Telefunken CU-29 valve mic. Very rich in sound quality, detail and depth. Magic sound.

We have a song below by local Brooklyn band Cassandra Sun. Very sweet, chill ballad that they released last week. We recorded just the vocals here at The Submarine. The chain went something like this...  Telefunken running into a Chandler TG2 preamp, into a Manley Massive Passive tube EQ then into an API 2500 for some light compression taming peaks before it hit the RME convertors, and then finally into Logic.

I noticed this mic straight away had a very forward sound and with the vocalist on deck also having quite a strong presence just around 1k and slightly heading into that heady/nasaly area there were some challenges. Though onnce in Logic I was able to smooth that out and place it all in the mix without too much trouble. Overall the lows are tight and the highs crisp. The mic has a very sweet sound and totally usable.

All around beautiful microphone and a fine addition!! Check it out!!
