NEW GEAR AND STUDIO FORMAT
I'd like to personally thank everyone who has worked on and entrusted their projects with us here at The Submarine throughout 2015. It was a super busy year and if it's any indicator, a sign of more good things to come for the future no doubt.
So at the end of last year there were some changes made to the studio as I was in the process of creating a new hybrid system with a high caliber front end of outboard preamps, comps and eq paired with a fully integrated touchscreen system that essentially would become the desk for tracking live, and with recording quality drums the focus. Originally we had the Toft ATB 16 which proved it's worth and was a great little workhorse of a desk but in the end I had other ideas about work flow and how I envisioned quality mic signal reaching the convertors. So in saying that we are now very close to installing the new Slate MTi-2 touchscreen system which we are all very excited and geeked out about over here. I've been curious of this style of setup for a while and I'm grateful we will now have the opportunity to run it at The Submarine and share it with new bands and artists for the upcoming year and beyond!!
As I mentioned we did away with the 16 channel Toft console and in it's place I've set up a somewhat modular rack mounted Submarine setup that consists of..
1 x channel of pristine RETRO INSTRUMENTS tube pre featuring a full Pultec style EQ and a vari-mu compressor
2 x channels of the heavy duty solid state EMI Chandler TG2
8 x channels of N72's Seventh Circle Audio (high end Neve clones)
The latter being some of the most sort after DIY kit clones on the market. I've test driven these pre-amps briefly and they sound amazing. You can push them really hard and over saturate and it always sounds great! So between all three options there's a great palette of 11 high end pre amps to get beautiful sounding drums and everything else in between from bass to keyboards, guitars and vocals.
We are super psyched for 2016!!! And we look forward to seeing you all again plus some new faces for sure!!!! Keep an eye out for the competition for studio time on our new system. Details should be up and online come February. Until then!!!
Thanks and all the best for the new year!!!
